  • For table service a tip of 15–20% is customary; at counter-service places tipping is optional.

We went a bunch of people today. Everyone got different dishes. I got chicken and broccoli with rice. It was tasty. But nothing exceptional. I took some of it to home to finish but when it got cold it is not easy to eat. Nice big seating hall.

Visited Chef Tan for the first time around 1 PM on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't busy, so we were seated immediately. Since we wanted a lighter lunch, I asked about the lunch specials but was informed they were for takeout only. From the main menu, we ordered the Iron Plate Tofu and the Scallion Beef stir-fry. The tofu dish was very good with silky tofu and flavorful ground pork. The scallion beef was generous in portion size, but it had mostly regular onions with a few pieces of scallions. Its overall taste wasn't to our liking. The service could use some work. Our wait staff was not friendly or attentive.

We had a great meal at Chef Tan in Jersey City. The scallion fried rice was absolutely my favorite dish of the night—perfectly seasoned and cooked. The mapo tofu was also really good, packed with flavor and hitting all the right notes. If you’re looking for a solid spot with excellent dishes, this is definitely one to check out. I’ll be back for more of that fried rice!

It’s really hard to find a place worth giving 5 stars but this restaurant really deserves it. We went 3 times and tried different dishes and every time it was delicious. The staffs are also very attentive and kind. Worth checking out! ( braised pork is currently my fav )

Absolutely outstanding experience! The menu feels truly authentic, with a wide variety of selections that capture rich, traditional flavors. Every dish we tried was delightful, but the spicy options really standout. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic cuisine and exceptional service!
